Elevating Urban Living: Branding the £1bn Paddington Village

When Collaboration Creates Stunning Results

The flagship Paddington Village development in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter was a large-scale, multi-phase urban renewal project, housing world-class institutions and commercial space. The challenge was ensuring this £1bn investment was branded with striking, quality signage suitable for different and applications, including a major headquarters, a hotel, and a multi-storey car park.

The Story of Collaboration

Successfully delivering branding across a development of this scale required a seamless, collaborative effort. We worked closely with the leading UK main contractors, Morgan Sindall Construction, to manage the complex logistics, site access, and varied requirements of every building within the Village. This partnership was vital for translating the architectural vision into perfectly executed, building-specific branding solutions.

Our Contribution

We manufactured, and install the comprehensive internal and external branding and guidance systems across multiple Paddington Village sites:

      • The Spine (Royal College of Physicians Headquarters): We created and installed large, modern 6 meter illuminated signs. These eye-catching signs, featuring a specialist lighting system, were mounted high above the roof level on two sides of the building to maximize their presence.
      • Novotel Liverpool: We delivered all internal signs and direction guides throughout the 16-storey, 221-bedroom hotel, ensuring guests enjoy a smooth and intuitive journey from check-in to their room.
      • Paddington Village Car Park: We developed and installed highly quality external illuminated signage, alongside essential internal safety and traffic signs, for the large 14-storey car park.

The Widd difference on this project was our ability to handle massive scale while focusing on flawless detail across highly diverse construction environments:

  • Managing Scale: Successfully completing one of the biggest projects, showcasing our ability to handle high-value, complex jobs.
  • Expert Detail: Providing specialist solutions, like the advanced illumination used at The Spine, to guarantee long life and visual impact, even at extreme heights.
  • Local Commitment: As a locally based company, our North West team were proud to support the creation of such an exciting and significant development in our region.

Meeting the Challenge

The primary challenges involved the project’s complexity, high-rise installation, and managing different building types simultaneously:

  • Logistics: Coordinating site access and installation across multiple working construction areas (The Spine, Novotel, Paddington Village Car Park).
  • High-Level Installation: Safely installing huge, illuminated signs at roof-top level, which required specialist rigging and careful planning.
  • Diverse Requirements: Seamlessly switching between high-impact external architectural branding and practical internal guidance systems.

Our work at Paddington Village demonstrates how effective partnership can translate an ambitious, billion-pound vision into tangible reality. By providing a single, reliable point of contact for complex design, manufacturing, and installation across several flagship buildings, we helped our partners, Morgan Sindall Construction, deliver a flawless, cohesive, and visually stunning development for the city.
