High-Level Architectural Signage for Liverpool’s £1bn Paddington Village
Spanning 30 acres in the heart of Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, Paddington Village is one of the North’s most ambitious urban regeneration schemes. Developed by Liverpool City Council to establish a world-class hub for life sciences, technology, and education, the village is set to create over 10,000 new jobs.
When it came to outfitting the development’s landmark structures with striking skyline branding and complex internal wayfinding, Widd Signs was selected to deliver end-to-end signage for two of its premier sites: The Spine and the Paddington Village Multi-Storey Car Park.
Skyline Branding at The Spine
Rising 14 storeys high and covering 160,000 square feet, The Spine is one of the healthiest office buildings in the UK and a standout architectural landmark on the Liverpool skyline.
To give the building high-impact visibility across the city, Widd Signs engineered and manufactured four massive sets of rimless face-illuminated letters. Each spanning almost six metres in length, these custom illuminated signs were precision-fitted to the building’s top louvre system, creating a vibrant focal point visible from miles around.
Architectural & Traffic Management Signage for Paddington Car Park
Directly adjacent to the commercial spaces, the 14-storey, 1,256-space Paddington Village car park required a multi-tiered approach balancing high-level external branding with intuitive internal navigation.
Our teams managed the entire process from design through to site installation, delivering:
High-Level Exterior Illuminated Signage: Large-format, weather-resistant branding installed at elevation to guide arriving traffic.
Internal Traffic Management & Safety Signage: Clear, high-durability directional markers, zone identification, and vehicular guidance across 14 decks.
Pedestrian Wayfinding: Clean, highly legible directional signage ensuring visitor safety between parking levels and adjacent Knowledge Quarter buildings.
Engineering for Elevation and High-Spec Architecture
Installing rimless illuminated lettering on the top of Liverpool’s tallest office space presented significant technical and structural challenges. Working from our manufacturing hubs in Leeds and St Helens, our craftsmen and site engineers coordinated high-level installation methods to secure the signage safely against high wind loads while preserving the building’s sleek glass facade.
“Paddington Village is transforming the Knowledge Quarter, and as a Northern-based manufacturer, we are incredibly proud to play our part in such a vital development. Projects of this scale allow us to showcase the full breadth of our in-house capabilities, from initial technical design and local manufacturing through to managing complex high-level installations.”
